At Obvious, we respect your right to control your personal data. This policy explains how you can request deletion of your data and what happens when you do.
How to Delete Your Data
Method 1: In-App Deletion (Recommended)
- Open the Obvious app
- Go to your Profile screen
- Tap "Delete Account"
- Confirm your decision
This is the fastest method and deletion begins immediately.
Method 2: Email Request
If you cannot access your account, send an email to support@obvious.app with:
- Subject line: "Data Deletion Request"
- Your registered email address
- Any additional verification information we may request
Response time: We will respond within 7 business days and complete deletion within 30 days.
What Gets Deleted
When you delete your account, we permanently delete:
Personal Information
- Your email address
- Your username
- Your password (already encrypted)
Activity Data
- All your votes on daily questions
- Your voting history
- Your current streak count
- Your longest streak record
- Your leaderboard position
Account Data
- Your user ID
- Account creation date
- Last login information
Deletion Timeline
- Immediate: Your account is deactivated and you can no longer log in
- Within 30 days: All your data is permanently deleted from our active databases
- Within 90 days: Data removed from backup systems
Data That May Be Retained
In certain circumstances, we may retain limited information:
Legal Requirements
We may retain data if required by law, for fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or to enforce our Terms of Service. This is rare and only happens when legally necessary.
Anonymized Analytics
Aggregated, anonymized data that cannot be linked back to you may be retained for analytics purposes (e.g., "100 users voted on this question"). This data does not identify you personally.
After Deletion
Your data is gone permanently. This means:
- ❌ You cannot recover your account
- ❌ Your streaks cannot be restored
- ❌ Your voting history is lost
- ✅ You can create a new account with the same email (as a new user)
Third-Party Data
We use Firebase (Google) for authentication and data storage. When you delete your account:
- We delete your data from Firebase within 30 days
- Firebase may retain certain technical logs for a limited time per their retention policies
